School Related Absences

Absences for a trip related to school activities including college visitations, field trips, athletic meets, etc. are authorized absences. These will not be included in determining eligibility for course credit.

Leaving Campus During the School Day

Students are under the care of the school and must never leave the campus without permission and need to sign in and out at the Academic Office. This includes the lunch. The Off Campus Permission form must be on file for a student to leave campus during the school day.

Illness

Students who feel ill during the school day must contact the Academic Office. After receiving permission from the guardian/parent, they may leave the high school.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

While we want to encourage students to enjoy their time at Western, we also need to provide a safe environment for all students. Therefore students will be expected to act in an appropriate manner. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary measures. This could include:

Community Service: Community Service will be served after school assisting in janitorial or cafeteria work. Students will be dismissed when the assignment is completed, not by the time served.
Detention: Detentions will be served at noon, after school, or in the morning. Students are expected to bring schoolwork. Failure to attend assigned detention period will result in additional consequences.
In-school Suspension: Students will report to the Academic Office by 8:40 a.m. Students are to bring schoolwork. Students may use the restroom or get a drink only with permission of the supervisor. Lunch break may be taken at a time that is away from other students. Parents will be notified of an in-school suspension. Students may not attend any school functions on the assigned date.
External Suspension: Parents will be notified of external suspensions. It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements for completing any missed assignments/tests. Students will not be permitted on campus during an external suspension and cannot attend any school functions.
Explusion: If a student is in danger of being expelled, parents are notified prior to a final decision. Students who are expelled will not be permitted on campus. Students may be eligible to re-apply after a semester.

SERVICES

Food Services
The Dickson Dining Hall and the Bean are available to all students. Meal tickets may be purchased through Campus Services. The Dining room is for those who have purchased a full meal.

Only those who have purchased a meal ticket for that meal are allowed into the Dining Hall. All others are asked to eat their lunch in the Bean.
Residential students must bring their ID cards to every meal. Those who do not bring an ID Card will not be able to eat until their card is found, or a replacement card has been purchased. Replacement cards may be purchased at Campus Services.
Students who are disrespectful to the Food Services personnel will not be allowed in the dining room until they have met with the Principal and appropriate steps to resolve the conflict have been made.
Students caught in the dining room without a meal ticket or permission will be asked to leave immediately. Community work and/or other discipline that may be considered appropriate for the incident.
Students are not allowed to take food out of the Dining Hall.
Throwing food is prohibited and will be dealt with appropriately.
Everyone is expected to clean up his/her tray, dishes and table area. Scrape food off dishes and stack neatly as directed. If you accidentally drop a dish or cutlery in the garbage, take it out.

As in all areas of our school, please be respectful of persons and property. Loud obnoxious behavior, running, climbing under or over tables, wasting food or drinks and making a mess are unacceptable.

Student Lounges

The Fireside Lounge and Student Centre are available to students. Failure to keep the area clean may result in lost privileges. Guidelines will be posted.
The Student Centre is not open during the school day. Hour of access and guidelines will be posted. Residential and Day students are welcome to use the Student Centre during scheduled hours.

Telephones

Pay phones are located in the hallway for your convenience. Students have access to a student phone just outside the principal's office.

Computer Lab

Guidelines and hours of access for the computer lab will be posted in the lab. The misuse or abuse of the computers will result in loss of computer privileges.

Student Records

Student records are kept in the Academic Office. Parents and students have the right to inspect the permanent records. School records shall not be disclosed to unauthorized persons.
The Academic Office upon request will forward their records to the new school, in the case of transfers. Once a student has graduated, his/her records will be retained in the archives.

Textbooks

Textbooks are loaned to the students through library services on a semester basis. Textbooks must be returned at the end of the semester in
